Class Description

Description

You have a compelling beat sheet for your TV pilot, but when you sit down to write, your vision falls apart: characters lack depth and dimension, exposition becomes clunky and heavy-handed, dialogue feels artificial, and scenes fail to land with impact. If this experience resonates with you, successful television writer Brett Paesel, who has worked on the series Transparent and sold 7 original pilots, can guide you through the process. In this intensive TV Draft Writing Workshop, Brett will help you craft a powerful outline and write complete scenes with clear beginnings, middles, and ends that deliver real impact to your reader.

You will master techniques for opening your pilot in a way that captures audience attention, developing a distinctive voice, and introducing your main character with professional polish. By the end of the class, you should have substantial sections of your pilot written and the confidence to complete it with style and flair. The Emmy award is not included.

Prerequisites:

  • A completed beat sheet for a half-hour or hour-length comedy, drama, or dramedy developed in TV 1, TV Drama 1, or TV Comedy 1 at Writing Pad
  • No projects will be accepted that have not been reviewed and vetted through a Writing Pad TV 1 class

Note: 400 Writing Pad alumni have been staffed on television shows, and 173 have won fellowships at major networks, including ABC, Fox, CBS, and NBC, after completing our TV writing courses.
