Glazing: The Renaissance Figure Painting Technique

Step into the world of the Great Masters and discover the secret behind their breathtakingly lifelike paintings. This course unveils the Renaissance method of rendering the human form with exquisite realism - an art of delicate glazes, luminous skin tones, and the illusion of breath beneath the paint.

Through the time-honored technique of layering translucent color over a green underpainting, you will learn how to create depth, vibrancy, and the illusion of living flesh. Once a widely used technique, this approach has faded into obscurity- not for lack of brilliance, but because it was replaced with the fast gratification of Impressionism and because it demands precision, patience, and a deep understanding of pigments and solvents.

While traditionally perfected in oils, this method can also be adapted for acrylics, ensuring that every artist can explore its magic. Beyond mastering technique, you will leave this course with a newfound appreciation for the masterpieces of the past, seeing them not just as paintings, but as the result of centuries of artistic innovation.
