Intro to Watercolor Painting (Level 1)

Capture the natural beauty and essence of your surroundings in a relaxed and expressive watercolor style.

In this course, you will focus on working from photographic references, mastering color mixing, developing brush technique proficiency, understanding layering methods, and using watercolor materials effectively. You will explore how to identify compelling subjects for painting, learn composition techniques for improved results, develop editing skills, manage your painting workflow and time, and apply finishing touches that elevate your work.

Students benefit from encouraging, constructive feedback and abundant one-on-one guidance throughout the course. You will complete the class with heightened confidence and a deeper understanding of how to produce beautiful, expressive paintings in the watercolor medium.

Supply List for Students to Bring:

This is a studio class, and students will use their supplies beginning in the first week.

• Fabriano Artistico enhanced watercolor block in 140-pound white cold press paper, 9 by 12 inch size (glued on all four edges so paper stretching is not required)
• Winsor and Newton Cotman 16 half-pan complete pocket set (includes 6 mixing palette areas, mini brush, and a kneaded eraser)
• Princeton Velvetouch 3950 set of 4 brushes (includes 4 round, 8 long round, 3/8 inch angled shader, and 3/4 inch wash brush)
• HB graphite pencil or number 2 pencil
• Rags or blue shop towels for blotting
